Solar discounts for veterans & military
If you're a veteran, active-duty service member, or reservist looking at solar, there are real ways to save. Here's an honest, current rundown (updated June 2026) — with no sales pitch.
Start with the savings everyone gets
The biggest single incentive isn't military-specific: the federal solar tax credit is available to all homeowners who buy their system. Veterans and service members get this on top of any military discount — confirm the current rate for the year you install.
Military & veteran discounts are common — ask
Many solar installers offer a military or veteran discount, often in the range of 5–15% or a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars off — even when it isn't advertised. When you compare quotes, ask each installer directly whether they offer one, and get it in writing.
Examples of veteran solar programs
A few established programs as of June 2026 (always verify current terms directly):
- Semper Solaris — Semper Cares Initiative. A veteran-owned national installer that donates complete solar/battery/roofing installations to nominated veterans (rather than a flat discount). You can nominate a deserving veteran on their site.
- ReVision Energy — “Solar Salute.” $500 off a solar PV system (or $250 off solar thermal) for veterans, active duty, and reserves — available in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
- Regional installers. Many local companies, especially veteran-owned ones, offer $500–$2,000 military discounts. Search your area and ask.
Other benefits worth knowing
- VA Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM). Lets veterans roll energy improvements into a VA loan at favorable rates.
- Stacking tax exemptions. In many states a veteran property-tax exemption and a solar property-tax exemption can both apply — so adding solar doesn't raise your property tax, and your veteran status lowers it further. Check your state.
- Solar careers for veterans. Not a discount, but worth knowing: the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Ready Vets network helps transitioning service members and veterans start careers in solar.
